Launch Events

The annual launch event takes place every year in April to celebrate the release of the newest edition. This event often features esteemed guest speakers who are leaders in political or social fields. Previous notable speakers have included Senator David Norris, former Senator Averil Power, and the Foreign Correspondent of the Irish Times, Patrick Smyth.

Writing Workshop
To support undergraduate researchers, a writing workshop is offered annually during the Michaelmas term. This workshop is organised in collaboration with Student Learning Development and aims to equip students with crucial writing tips and tricks. It also provides more information on the criteria and types of submissions the editors are seeking, allowing students to meet the editing team directly.
Coffee Hours
Closer to the submission deadline, which typically occurs in February, the journal hosts coffee hours. These sessions offer a chance to meet the editors and discuss administrative or managerial aspects of the journal, or general principles of academic writing. However, the editors maintain a strict policy of not giving advice on individual potential submissions during these meetings.

The SPR is also committed to hosting events that shed light on the political and social issues in Ireland
These events have included a Panel Discussion on the topic ‘Changing Ireland; Shaping our Future’ with guest speakers including Professor Gerard Whyte, Ms. Noelle O’Connell, Mr. Michael Barron, and Mr. Brian Whiteside. We have also co-hosted a debate with The Phil entitled “This House Believes that Terrorism can be Rational”, and honored guests such as the Hon. Jane Harman, CEO and President of the Wilson Centre in Washington D.C in 2017.
